As much as this may be a shock to some players, it is a choice to be respected because Sudden Strike 4 builds the entirety of its gameplay on the small group of units that it entrusts to the player at the beginning of each mission finished these, unless scripted reinforcements, you get a nice screen of defeat and you have to repeat everything to access the next mission. The maps are all quite limited in size since the proposed situations are tactics on a very close scale: this means that you will find yourself managing a limited number of resources in a confined space. This means that scripting reigns supreme in Sudden Strike 4 with events that unlock areas of the map, reinforcements arriving at specific times, enemies occupying positions to generate objectives, and so on. It is immediately clear that the focus of the developers has been concentrated on the campaigns since every single mission is a sort of puzzle designed by the designers to offer strategic choices and, in general, an interesting challenge. The answer is, apparently, very little, since the title offers the player a classic recipe already starting from the game modes: World War II in three campaigns of seven missions each (Allies, Germany and Soviet Union), skirmish (only five maps) and multiplayer (on the same five maps as skirmish mode).

2017 was the year of Steel Division, Dawn of War 3, Halo Wars 2 and Ultimate General Civil War as we wait for Northgard to come out of early access and Tooth and Tails (watch out for this gem).Ģ017 is also the year in which Sudden Strike, historical series for the RTS genre, returns to our screens with the fourth episode: the hot topic for this title is certainly linked to the tradition of the franchise, or to the classic formula of RTS, to the base building and what, in fact, Sudden Strike 4 has decided to innovate. Now, though, I’m ashamed I haven’t played it because if the story is that half of Blackguards 2, it’s certainly not something to miss.The RTS genre is experiencing a sort of second youth: the developers seem to appreciate its market prospects and the potential for innovation and invest in both new franchises and more or less successful ones. When I set out, I was ashamed I hadn’t played the original out of a sense of journalistic responsibility.

For anyone who values choice and consequence in videogames, Black guards 2 will surely shine in a way that few titles have since the original Fallouts, and the closing moments of the game are beautifully powerful if you attempt to play the hero, as I did. After 60 hours or so of playtime, the constant fear and mistrust can bring out the worst in a player, and the consequences that your actions hold can leave you far from the moral direction you originally set out with. There is more than enough drama left over from the first game, paired with the new additions to the cast, to keep the player ever on their toes. The game informs you very early on that dialogue options you choose will have consequences It means it so much so, that by about twenty hours into the game, I grew suspicious that I may, in fact, have become the villain of my own story. Unlike many titles that have claimed the same in recent memory though, Blackguards 2 means it. What drives her is up to the player to decide, and the game informs you very early on that dialogue options you choose will have consequences. Alone and driven mad by years of exposure to the venom of the sacred Corapia spiders that harass her, her journey begins. Cassia starts the game imprisoned in the catacombs below the arena in the capitol city, locked up by her husband, a self-proclaimed God-king figure. You see, where Blackguards 2 really shines is in the writing.
